Who is Jesus and Why Should I Care?

God the Father lives in heaven and is the Creator of the Earth—and of you. He has let us know about Himself throughout history through His Word, the Christian Bible.

Jesus Christ, His Son, shares fully in the power and nature of God. Around 2,000 years ago, Jesus came down from Heaven in the form of a man and taught the Gospel of grace and truth.

Jesus holds complete power over all of creation. During His time on Earth, He healed people of every kind of disease, cast out demons, walked on water, calmed storms, miraculously produced food out of nowhere, and ultimately raised Himself from the dead three days after being crucified on a cross.

He was also perfect, as no human being can be. He never did anything wrong – never lied, hated, stole, killed, or did anything to harm another person.

But those things were not His greatest work. His greatest work was His death on the cross.

Jesus did not die an ordinary death. As the all-powerful Son of God, His sacrifice was unique and unmatched.

Jesus’ death on the cross was excruciating—far more painful than any other person who has been crucified. While His hands and feet were nailed to the cross, He also suffered the spiritual torment of God’s holy anger for the wrongdoing of all humans.

But why? This had to happen, because our Creator, God—who loves us deeply—is also perfectly good and cannot overlook sin (stealing, lying, hatred, murder, etc). Instead, all sin must be punished in order for it to be truly stopped. But that means we, as imperfect humans who do wrong things all the time, would have to be punished for all of our sins. If it wasn’t for Jesus.

Here’s the wonderful news: on the cross, Jesus took that punishment for us! And that means we will never have to suffer the wrath of God. Instead, we are able to receive the great love He has for us.

“He himself bore our sins in his body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; by his wounds you have been healed." (1 Peter 2:24, NIV)

Why should I care?

You should care because, in order for you to be washed clean of your sins and wrongdoings, you must take the step of accepting His sacrifice for yourself and be willing to follow Jesus and His ways. People who accept the salvation and sacrifice of Jesus Christ are redeemed, or bought back, from any punishment they deserve, and are then covered in Christ’s holiness and perfection. Jesus basically gives us a “get out of Hell free” card and guarantees a place for us in heaven with Him after we die. This means we can live without any shame or condemnation, and can begin a new life that is full of joy and peace.

And here’s another amazing thing! Jesus protects His people. He watches over them, protects them, heals them, guides them, encourages them, gives them great wisdom—and many other things. Knowing Jesus and the great love He has for us is the key to true happiness and peace.

Jesus truly loves you. He made you, knows you, and wants a real personal relationship with you. He won’t force His way into your life, but He’s always there, patiently waiting for you to open the door and let him.

Will you accept Jesus as your Savior today?

T

If you’re in despair, if you know deep down that something is missing, or if you’re tired of trying to figure everything out on your own—know this: Jesus is right here, and He loves you more than you can imagine. He’s not waiting for you to be perfect. He’s simply waiting for you to say “yes” to Him.

No matter what you’ve done or where you’ve been, His grace is bigger. His arms are open. And right now, you can begin a brand new life with Him—one filled with hope, peace, and purpose.

If you’re ready to give your life to Jesus, to be forgiven and made new, you can pray this simple but powerful prayer:

“Jesus, I know that I’ve sinned and made mistakes. I believe You died on the cross for my sins and rose again so I could be forgiven. I don’t want to live my life without You anymore. I’m asking You to come into my life, forgive me, and make me new. I choose to trust You, follow You, and live for You from this day on. Thank You for loving me and saving me.

Amen.”
